Two sites for you to look at. First an article from CNN on the
basics. Then Here is a more in depth article from
"Reader's Digest". Pay attention to what his MPG was in the race. Pretty impressive! Please comment on what tips you could apply to your own driving.
I could avoid gunning it in the 87 buick. im sure that doesn't really help the gas mileage. also, on roads that are 55 mph, i should probly go that since that maximizes your gas mileage. also, i could start using my cruise control
ReplyDeletei should start by going 55 on all roads, as its where my car gets the best milage. second of all i drive a stick shift, that helps a little bit... i could possibly drive a bike... that would really really help but im too lazy. dimples too. that'll help.
ReplyDeleteIf i stopped accelerating so fast and braking hard sometimes it would definitely safe gas mileage. I guess i could start hypermiling and turn off the car on the highway and take turns at excessive speeds also.
ReplyDeleteI think that keeping your foot off the brake/gas pedal would not only keep your gas mileage at a higher rate, but it would keep the roads safer. It sounds like having better MPG is more of a mental state of mind than anything else.
ReplyDeleteHypermiling sounds like a fun way to learn how to increase your MPG. Although it does make me nervous to think that you'd have to whip around an off ramp to be a true hypermiler. Coasting sounds like a good way of saving gas, and slowing down drivers.
I think that the crazy ways that Wayne saves gas are super unsafe and would be really freaky to drive like that, even though it is efficient, like if you turn off your car and you have to stop really quick because something jumped in front of your car, you couldnt stop because your cars off. Theyre good ideas and super efficent, just not safe in my opinion.

i probably need to stop accelerating fast and or quick decisions, and go 55, and keep my air conditioning off, but for the most part i dont think ill do those things that much cause i dont really think its to help all that much
ReplyDeleteI think that hypermileing would be a good idea, it's a very creative way to save your mpg's, but I also think that it's a very dangerous decision to make. My dad's a test driver for GM and he does this type of thing every day. He say's that it's not easy even after 34 years of working as a test driver. He says that it would also makes the roads dangerous, especially for new drivers. I don't think it's a good idea, instead of putting people in danger on the roads, we should just put more technology into more fuel effiecient cars.
ReplyDeleteThis page has some fun and good ideas but the one who is speed I think they have to check it because one thing is try to go at speed limit to save MPG at more safety roads but driving slower than the speed limit can also be very dangerous but others like check the pressure of the wheels or don't drive extremely crazy are good ones.
ReplyDeleteSo before drive is better to think how can we do the Hypermiling but being safe.
hypermililing is a more fuel efficant way to drive and if more people started to hypermile we would be using alot less gas. also more people would be traveling at closer to 55mph on the highway and people would be moving at a slower and more safer speed.
ReplyDeleteI think that hypermiling is hard to integrate into most peoples driving. Since not everyone does it, it could cause issues when you are going slower than everyone else. If everyone did use these tips, then it would be helpful, but other cars would still cause problems.
ReplyDeletei think that the best hypermiling strategy i could use is braking less and not as hard, my old car already has bad brakes and i probably overwork them decreasing my fuel efficiency
ReplyDeleteI could at least go the speed limit ( I have been told I drive fast). I could not accelerate fast sence there really is no point. Im not going to do everything that guy did, but he was on the right track. Obvisouly he did something right sence he got 187 mpg, thats just crazy talk.
ReplyDeleteWell i don't have a car, but if i did, i would just drive 55 mph and not gun the gas every time i had to brake. I would also cruise instead of braking. This would save my gas and also improve my driving skills.
ReplyDeletethis would tick me off to the max im a very offiensive driver and when people drive slow and do that coasting crap my road rage side kicks in so please dont do this by me
ReplyDeletewell, with my '48 ford, there is 2 reasons i am changing to a 4bbl carburetor. firs it improves performance, but secondly it will improve gas mileage when not accelerating because of the smaller primary valve.
ReplyDeleteit's quite amazing how someone can take a standard car and turn it into a 180 mpg car with just some driving expertise. i think it's a listtle extreme though to go so frantic over the whole concept of doing all you can and sweating it out so profusely
ReplyDeleteSaving gas is a subject that is very in the flow today because of the ever rising gas prices and any way to save on that gas is a good idea but i do not enjoy driving slow and drafting and coasting it gets annoying i suppose going 55 on roads other than the highway would be a smart idea otherwise i guess i will just pay for my gas.
ReplyDeleteWell, my Nissan Pathfinder gets 13miles to the gallon. So hypermileing is already like a second nature of mine, but I can improve.
ReplyDeleteFor instance, I never trust that I can coast up a hill/incline, but I've never tried.
So there are things I can do to improve my mileage!
I think its awesome people can take normal cars and transform them into something much better
ReplyDeletesmall things to improve your mileage are very helpful.
I will start doing some of these
i think that i could brake softer and coast more.
ReplyDeleteI could definatly coast more often and use windows more so than the air conditioner. driving 55 isn't such a bad idea eather even though i do like to go fast.

ReplyDeleteEver since we went over this in class i coasted alot more then usual because i thought if there was a red like why waste my gas to stop at a red light (only when people are not behind me) i even tried the turn off method and it was kinda crazy
