  1. Samantha Brandon-
I really like the idea of passive homes because they use no furnaces and all the heat comes from the sun and appliances. The 5% more for this house will pay off in time because you will spend less on electricity to heat your house.

  2. I agree with samantha, it would most likely be a cost savings and you wouldn't really have to worry about repairs and instalations. even though the home is a bit more than others it will definitely save you money when your heating and cooling bill comes.

  3. i think this is a great way to heat your house and cut down on gas bills and you don't have to pay for a furnace either and it is better for the environment

  4. I think it wold just be better if all houses were built this way. It wouldn't harm the enviorment and it also isn't that much more expensive to build compated to any normal home.

  5. it would be good if all houses were built like this but what if you live in a shady area? its a good idea but needs to be farther developed

  6. I think these passive homes are great and America needs to start building more of these. The heat transfer is %90 efficient which is great, and the home only costs about %6 more to build than a regular home, but uses 1/20 of the energy, making the payback time very minimal.

  7. This idea is good one and yes it has some problems but it's a start to making better houses. So far, I believe the passive house design is going towards the right direction in saving money and heating homes more effectivly.

  8. If all houses were built likeb this the whole world would use a lot less energy, this would reduce a lot of polution. So I think the idea is very good. Also its not much more to build these homes, deffentaly worth the coast.

  9. It seems to me like its definitely worth the pay, especially if there really is no major/if any cons about passive homes. if i had my own house with the a good financial life, i'd do the same thing-MARISSA

  10. I feel like this is a good idea, if you're in a good location. So even though the house will be "passive" and stay about the temp year round, constant shade or sun will dramatically effect your house come night & day. kinda flawed idea, but another good one to save energy.

  11. The payback period would be very small. since the cost of building one of these homes would be another 6% however it will retain 90% of it's energy the positives heavily outweight hte negatives.

  12. It only costs a little more to make and the heat transfer is 90% efficient. It will pay itself off soon enough, good idea

  13. I think it's a really good idea to "recycle heat." Having a passive home is not a lot more expensive than a normal home. I think its awesome how the house heats with body heat

  14. I think this is a great idea! when it's cool outside, the objects in the house adjust and heat up the home. If its hot outside, you can crack open a window and enjoy the breeze. It's good to hear they're starting to make these homes in California, but I hope they grow in popularity. I think this will almost eliminate heating bills and we can use that money towards other things.

  15. "But the sophisticated windows and heat-exchange ventilation systems needed to make passive houses work properly are not readily available in the United States."
    RUDE!
Passive homes sound like a really great idea. We should definitely make more of them in the US. With all the electronics us American's 'need' today, those houses would get really toasty. Hot cocoa in a cold kitchen would NOT be something i would miss. instead I would be glad I didn't have to do my homework in my room with my winter coa, and still wrapped up in my blankets. They should make these school sized! I'd love to be able to actually take my coat off during the day!

  16. a passive home is a very good idea. recycling heat makes alot of sense and really it isnt as bad as having a normal home

  17. Passive homes are a really good idea. They only cost 5-7% more to build, so why not if they are going to save us all this money? It only has to use 1/20th of the energy of a normal house also. You will definitely get payed off with passive homes.

  18. this is awesome since heating is one of the highest draws on energy. the extra 5-7% would be paid back in a couple years.

  19. i think this is a dope idea.. i wish my house was like this and i think they should keep thinking of ideas like this for future home designs.

  20. i think these would be great to start implementing in the US because they would help both the environment and could probably help less well off families to afford a good house, but gas and fuel companies would probably protest them

  21. Richie Dombrowski,

I personalty think this is a really good way to produce heat to your house and lower your gas bills and you don't have to keep paying for a furnace either. The idea of this is very good for our plant

  22. I think its really smart for the environment and for energy costs. we already sort of do it in my house. In the summer, we open the windows on cold nights and close them when it gets hot. That way our house is really cold when its warm outside in the daytime.

  23. i think its a good idea to use passive homes because they use passive homes because it doesnt use non renewable sorces of energy and is a good way to go green

  24. I think it'd be a really cool thing to have a passive house. not only would you save money, you would save A LOT of energy from being used. maybe people should put their money where their mouth is and instead of talking about how everyone needs to get fuel efficient cars and save energy and all this, they can just buy a passive house

  25. I think that passive homes will be the next generation of homes to be bought. People are starting to realize that if you start green from the beginning, you will remain green and save a lot of money. Passive homes are amazing and are no different than a normal home, except that you save tons of energy and money.

  26. I think it's a great idea, you could save money and save energy from being used. It would be able to help families out because of our poor economy right now.

  27. Richie Dombrowski,
I think this would be Hugh on cutting back on your gas bill and getting free heat after you pay for it i agree with sam too

I think that this would be a great idea because we would not have to use expensive furnaces and have to use gas to heat our houses.

  32. I like this idea and would like to have it in my home. If everybody had a passive home then there would be no need for furnaces and everybody's heating bill would pretty much vanish.

I think is a good idea because it doesn't cost to much more than a normal house and at the end we can save more money and also is a nice form to heat the house instead using the heaters or other types of heater pipes and it will be worthy for people with not too much money.

    ReplyDelete
  34. For the cost of at most 10% more to build your home and not have to pay for heating or cooling it would be dumb to not use a passive home given you live in the right area to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  35. the bad thing about passive homes is that the appliences begin to get old and unefficent.
